The Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP)The Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) is a 42-inch natural gas pipeline with a capacity of 2 billion cubic feet per day, transporting critical energy supply to markets across the Mid- and South-Atlantic U.S. regions. Completed in 2019 as a joint venture between EQT Corporation and NextEra Energy, Inc., the 294-mile route spans 16 counties in West Virginia and Virginia, helping move natural gas from the prolific Marcellus and Utica shale basins to where it’s needed most — despite significant regulatory and environmental challenges along the way. To minimize environmental impact, polyurethane foam was prohibited due to concerns around cathodic protection interference and potential groundwater contamination. Steep terrain also made traditional padding and sandbags impractical. Instead, contractors adopted PipePillo® structured pipeline supports — a lightweight, efficient solution that reduced labor demands, simplified transport, and helped maintain pipe integrity by preventing ovality. Used both in-trench and throughout staging and welding, PipePillo® supports replaced hundreds of sandbags in difficult sections, ultimately saving time, cost, and effort across the project. PipePillo® pipeline supports proved to be the ideal solution for the Mountain Valley Pipeline project. |
