When constructing a pipeline, it is necessary to store pipes and other equipment while preparations for installation are made. Generally, the pipes and other equipment are stored in places called staging areas and storage yards. These yards are specially cleared locations near to where the construction work will occur. Staging areas are typically covered in rough stone gravel requiring the pipe to be supported to reduce the risk of damage and ovality.
The Kern River Stacking project was a job located in Salt Lake City, UT during the summer of 2017. The project required 2000ft of 36” pipe be supported while to was storage until use.
The stacks of pipe needed to be three layers and have stability and protection for long term or short-term storage. For the 36” OD / 0.68 WT pipeline, PipeSak® recommended the use of our SPP36 PipePillo™ structured pipeline support.
PipePillo™ pipeline supports were engineered to safely hold up to 80,000 lbs, making it an ideal solution for pipe storage and transportation. In addition to its strength, PipePillo™ supports also help to reduce the risk of ovality by providing a full 90 degrees if support.
In the end the light weight and simple installation shortened the man-hours spent on the job and helped to lower the over all cost of this storage project.
