PipeSak®Geotextile Pipeline weights
Consumers Energy kicked off phase 2 of the Mid-Michigan Replacement project in April 2024, marking another significant step forward in enhancing the region’s energy infrastructure. This phase focuses on a 25-mile (59km) stretch of the 36” pipeline around Ovid Lake near Owosso, Michigan. Consumers Energy awarded Snelson, a Primoris company, to construct the pipeline.
Following the positive outcomes of phase 1, Snelson again opted to use PipeSak® geotextile pipeline weights to address its buoyancy challenges. After a spacing consultation with PipeSak Engineers, it was determined that each weight needed to be strategically placed 11.38 feet from center to center. This calculation led to the requirement of 1600 QF36 and 140 QF2024 weights to successfully sink the pipe.
The utilization of PipeSak® geotextile pipeline weights as an efficient solution not only facilitated the seamless sinking of the pipeline but also underscored Snelson’s commitment to employing innovative and reliable techniques for successful and long-lasting pipeline projects. In early May, Snelson filled all weights with no issues. Construction is expected to reach the clean-up stage by early August and is anticipated to be in service by late October or early November.
