In 2020 SeaCoast Gas Transmission along with TECO completed the Palatka Lateral Natural Gas Pipeline. The pipeline is 21 miles long and connects the existing Putnam Hall natural gas line to the Seminole Combined-Cycle Facility Power Plant. The project includes two mainline block valves (MLVs), a pig launcher/receiver at the FGT Gate Station, access roads, and work areas. During the construction of this project PipeSak® Inc. provided 1,354 PipeSak pipe weights for the 30” O.D. pipe that was used on the project. PipeSaks® were needed to provide buoyancy control for the 5.34 acres of wetlands that the pipeline passes through. The project was located to avoid and minimize wetland and surface water impacts to the greatest extent practicable. PipeSak weights are an excellent choice for projects where the environmental impact is being taken into consideration as they are a soft method of buoyancy control, allowing the pipeline to move slightly while still maintaining negative buoyancy and coating protection. They allow for the easy passage of water supporting cathodic protection systems. They are non-biodegradable and as environmentally friendly as the natural aggregate used to fill them.
