Spire Energy began construction on the 65-mile, 24” diameter STL Mainline Pipeline in December 2018 with the goal of connecting to the Rockies Express Pipeline, located in Illinois. While passing through Scott, Greene, and Jersey counties of Illinois as well as St. Charles and St. Louis counties of Missouri, the STL Mainline required protection from impacts and abrasions due to rocky backfill.
Over 1,000 pads of PipeJacket™ by PipeSak®, a proprietary rockshield, were used to ensure the pipeline was protected during backfill operations. PipeJacket™ by PipeSak® protects the pipeline and pipeline coating from rocky or harsh backfill during construction and throughout the life of the pipeline while maintaining a clear pathway for cathodic protection. Additionally, PipeJacket™ by PipeSak® offers cost savings by being lightweight, easy to install, and reducing the requirements for select fill or sand padding.
Now completed, the STL Mainline will help alleviate the natural gas requirements of homes and businesses throughout the area.
