Award-Winning Engineered Pipeline Lagging
We are thrilled to announce that we won the International Pipe Line and Offshore Contractors Association (IPLOCA) New Technology Award and would like to congratulate all of the hardworking nominees striving to improve the safety, quality and sustainability of pipelines.

The New Technology Award
Introducing the Award-Winning PipeDefender – engineered pipeline lagging
IPLOCA’s mission is to provide value to members through a forum for retaining and sharing knowledge globally, facilitating business opportunities, and promoting the highest standards in safety, innovation, quality, business ethics, and sustainability throughout the pipeline construction industry. The New Technology Award is awarded every other year at the IPLOCA Annual Convention, in recognition of:
- A significant technological or engineering breakthrough
- The design of a new tool or piece of equipment
- A new or revised construction practice
- A new type of permanent material

Replacement For Wood pipeline Lagging
PipeDefender® is a lightweight yet heavy-duty impact and abrasion protection system used for extreme pipeline protection. PipeDefender® is a permanent solution that eliminates the need for pesky wood lagging, heavy thin concrete coating, as well as sand bedding and padding.
Designed with a pattern of peaks and valleys, PipeDefender® is not only designed to disperse the force of impact, but also absorb it through deformation, making it ideal for initial pipeline construction, integrity digs, and trenchless and boring applications.
Testing has proven PipeDefender® resists rock impacts over 60 lbs (27 kg) when dropped from a height of 10′ (3 m) – with no FBE coating damage. Multi-channel drainage allows groundwater an easy path into and out of PipeDefender® to limit the pooling of moisture against the pipe surface while ensuring resistivity levels remain within typical variations found in surrounding soils.

How was PipeDefender developed?
“At Pipesak, We believe that everything that touches the pipe should be engineered to ensure long-term pipeline integrity.” – Geoff Connors, CEO of PipeSak Inc.
The development of our PipeDefender® engineered pipeline lagging stemmed from repeated stories of difficult wood lagging, sand padding erosion, and heavy concrete coating.
With the help of pipeline Owning companies, Contractors, and engineering firms, we evaluated current methods of extreme pipeline protection practices, processes, and products to create the ideal replacement that:
- Must be compatible with cathodic protection systems and freely allow the passage of water
- Must provide equal or better mechanical protection than current methods
- Should be light enough to be easily handled without equipment (i.e. laborers only)
- Must be easy to install and UV-resistant
- Resistant to a wide range of pH levels and chemicals that could be found in soil
